Why AEROPOLIS MTU

MTU Aero Engines Polska in Rzeszow

With 7,500 employees, MTU Aero Engines is one of the largest engine manufacturers in the world. A turnover amounting to more than 2.7 billion euros was realised in the previous financial year, 2008. The company is the world's largest independent provider for the maintenance of civil aircraft engines.

We are more than satisfied with our investment in Rzeszow where we have been able to fully implement our ideas in their entirety. It has taken less than a year to establish the site and construct the building, and we have also kept within the planned budget. We have been developing, producing, assembling and repairing sophisticated engine components here since April 2009.

The criteria affecting our decision for investing in Rzeszow were the attractive infrastructure, the availability of qualified personnel, excellent inter-regional transport connections and an attractive financial package. As well as these factors, the establishment of the "Podkarpackie Science - Technology Park" was also a decisive criterion. The erection of the Technology Park will encourage businesses which will be installing technologically demanding production facilities to move into the area. This will result in a customer and supplier network. This concentration of technologically demanding production facilities will also attract appropriately qualified people from the local universities which focus on the requirments of this situation.

We have been actively supported in the implementation of our plans by both regional and national authorities.

One year has passed since King & Fowler Ltd, an English aerospace surface treatment specialist, decided to establish a branch in Mielec. The attractive investment conditions, convenient location within the Polish aerospace alliance and proactive support form Inward Investment Centre have made the Podkarpacie region especially interesting for our investment.

Having taken over a deteriorated PZL Mielec treatment plant, King & Fowler Polska started investing in modern technologies and workforce development.

After a year, thanks to the dedication of highly skilled local workforce, efficient management and co-operation with local investor-focused organisations, the company is now becoming Eastern Europe's largest independent aerospace surface treatment house. The convenient location in the Mielec Special Economic Zone as well as proximity of aerospace companies (both highly specialised local suppliers and large customers) allied in the "Aviation Valley" had, to a large extent, an impact on the company's success. The dynamically developing Podkarpacie region has a lot to offer to its investors.

As a medium-sized, family owned business active in the aerospace sector, it was a big step for us to move outside of our German borders and invest in Poland. In Podkarpacie we encountered very favorable investment conditions, beginning with a skilled work force, functioning local networks like the Aviation Valley organization and also efficiently run and professional government authorities, such as the Europark Special Economic Zone and the Inward Investment Centre Rzeszow (RARR). Having previously visited several potential investment locations in Poland, we quickly became convinced that Podkarpacie had most of the criteria we were looking for in a location. Two and a half years on, we have not regretted this decision and are glad to be part of the development of this innovative region in the geographic centre of Europe. We are now employing 50 staff and are launching construction of a new manufacturing facility in early 2008.

After Second Word War Bavaria was one of the poorest and the most underdeveloped lands in Germany. Thanks to wise and persistent work of the citizens of this beautiful Region which local leaders had a vision of Bavaria become one of the richest and a high-tech Region in Europe. It happened because of modern industry, education, technology and innovation development. Does Podkarpackie have a chance to achieve success as Bavaria did? I’m sure about that. We have major assets and growth potential.

First of all our Region is characterized by concentration of high-tech aviation industry. Many of these companies are associated in Aviation Valley Association. In the Association there are both large companies such as Pratt and Whitney, Sikorsky, Goodrich or Snecma and medium and small enterprises as well as family businesses. Aviation Valley is an industrial cluster which attracts new investors through well developed and mature business infrastructure.

Saying well developed and mature business infrastructure I have Aeronet on my mind which is an organization that associates companies from Aviation Valley and 5 Polish Universities of Technology. The main aim of Aeronet is to educate and prepare workforce for aviation industry and conduct research in the field of R&D. That’s why Aviation Valley built the most modern material laboratory in this part of Europe, located in Rzeszow University of Technology and worth 28 million PLN.

Aviation Valley has initiated CEKSO, an organization associating 6 vocational technical schools in the Region. The aim of CEKSO is educating potential employees of industrial companies in Podkarpackie, mainly CNC operators. CEKSO is co-founded by local authority.
Another crucial initiative is the Aeropolis Science and Technology Park, established near Rzeszow. The Park will be another asset that will attract investors from hi-tech branches. For the present moment we have 2 major investors, which have officially declared to build theirs factories in the Park. These are: major manufacturer of aero engines in Germany - MTU company and global automotive corporation - Borg Warner. Further investors are negotiating terms.

Through establishing the Aviation Valley Association, the Podkarpackie was provided with very favorable business surrounding. Potential investor immediately can have access to developed systems, educational resources and recruitment process can be much easier here due to numerous and experienced workers. Region has many universities, with Rzeszow University of Technology as a leading university. Production costs are highly competitive, and potential employees are highly skilled and employ work ethics.

Foreign companies can also consider the possibility of EU financial support, in their development strategies. EU founds are dedicated in particular for Regions like Podkarpackie which on one hand is one of the poorest Region in Europe, but on the other hand is the Region which has innovation and technological development in its strategy.

Capital of the Region is the city of Rzeszów, which is one of the clearest and safest cities in Poland. An international airport and future motorway links the Region with the rest of the world.  Podkarpackie Region means also beautiful landscapes, great recreation potential, areas where unspoiled wildlife can be spotted and are one of the most unique in Europe. Here it is possible to work in the most modern industrial companies and enjoy unpolluted, delightful and attractive environment of the Region in the free time.

I am sure, that Podkarpackie Region will keep its competitive costs of running enterprises and business competitiveness for a long time and life standards of its inhabitants will grow fast.

“Ladies and Gentlemen,

With great pleasure, I would highly recommend the Podkarpackie Region  to companies as an ideal place for locating their investments. The Region is characterized by well developed system of higher education institutions, presence of motivated and exceptionally well-qualified workforce, concentration of aviation industry, a fast developing international airport Rzeszów-Jasionka and well functioning special economic zones. In addition, the Region  is located on the east-west communication cross-roads. In opinion of many companies which have already invested in Podkarpackie Region the area is a very prospective place, suitable for new investments. Opinions of local and foreign investors who decided to set up their companies in our Region will be soon presented on the web-site.”
