Description of Podkarpackie

The region is located in the south-eastern part of Poland and it covers approximately 18,000 sq. km which constitutes 5.7 % of total area of Poland. The area is inhabited by 2,103,500 people (5.5 % of the country population).

The southern and eastern border of the Region is also a border of Poland on the section of 370 km. The Podkarpackie borders with the Ukraine and Slovak Republic. Close proximity to eastern markets creates favourable conditions for economic co-operation and widely understood cross-border co-operation.

Podkarpackie Region is divided into 160 communities, 21 counties and 4 cities that are treated as separate counties (Rzeszów, Krosno, Tarnobrzeg, Przemyśl).

Rzeszów is the seat of local government of the region. The city is economic, academic and cultural centre of the region. The city of Rzeszów with 180,000 inhabitants is the capital of the region.

At the end of May 2012 there were 151,100 business entities registered in the region i.e. ~4% of all business entities registered in Poland. Number of commercial companies establishing by foreign entrepreneurs increases constantly - and now there are 1065 foreign capital companies in Podkarpackie Region. The avarege monthly gross salary in enterprise sector is - 2960,81PLN

High-efficient branches

The most preferred areas of business within the Voivodship which are worth investing in are as follows: aviation, automotive industry, electronics, electromechanical, light industry, food and farm product industry, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and tourism.


New Possibilities, new challenges

The fact that Poland is a member of the European Union creates a whole range of opportunities for the Podkarpackie Region. The region is situated on the easternmost border of the EU, close to the new and developing markets. For south east Poland, the Region is an important communication junction and two major Trans European Routes are planned to pass through Rzeszów offering unparalleled access to new markets for local companies as well as investors.

The region possesses a well developed infrastructure of secondary and further education, well trained employees and relatively low labour costs that encourage investment efficiency from one side and maintain a reasonable level of operational cost from the other side. The competitive price of land for investment further increases the potential for new initiatives. The local communications network is well developed with air, railway and road links that connect the region quickly and efficiently with the rest of the world. Finally the unpolluted environment, beautiful landscapes, recreation areas and cultural attractions create opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment after the working day.


A good climate for investment

The incentives for companies investing in Podkarpackie include duty free import of equipment for new factories, job creation grants, reimbursement of the cost of employee training. The region has preferential access to EU funds.
